2. 2. 8. Limits for volatile aromatic hydrocarbons

description relevant product categories

explanation

Aromatic hydrocarbons are benzene-based compounds. Aromatics such as toluene, ethyl benzene or xylene are mainly used as thinners in cellulose-nitrate and synthetic resin varnishes. Certain emulsion adhesives for flooring may also contain aromatic solvents. Aromatics are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are assessed as involving considerable health hazards.

minimum requirement

Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons are inadmissible as constituents of waterproofing agents, coatings and coating strippers for wood, metal and flooring, as well as in plastering and spackling pastes. Impurities up to a content of 0.01% by weight (100 ppm) are tolerable.

For any other mixtures, the maximum admissible content of volatile aromatic hydrocarbons is 1% by weight.
