Products made from organohalogen compounds should be avoided due to numerous ecological disadvantages during the production cycle as well as for disposal and recycling. Due to its short period of use, packaging made from PVC and other organohalogen compounds is regarded as particularly problematic.
Halogen-containing polymers in packaging are generally undesirable. In addition, the tenderer has to specify how the provisions of the Austrian 1996 Packaging Regulation (Verpackungsverordnung; published in Federal Collection of Statutes BGBl. II Nr. 648/1996 as amended) are being met.
