6. 1. 1. Avoiding vapour barriers made from composites

description relevant product categories

explanation

Composites are building materials made from at least two different constituent materials that are fully bonded over the entire surface and cannot be separated manually. As a rule, they are difficult to reuse and often, only low-level disposal is possible.

minimum requirement

Vapour barriers and windproof- and sub-roof layers must consist of either renewable materials (e.g. paper) or a single type of plastic. Additives from other materials are admissible up to a maximum content of 10% w/w.

Proof:
Manufacturer's declaration.

Alternatively, the corresponding baubook declaration may serve as evidence (www.baubook.info/oea).

Change of criteria

The criterion has been withdrawn

Reason: The use of circular construction products should be promoted in the future with an overarching catalog of measures for all product groups. In contrast, the withdrawn criterion only regulated one measure (avoidance of composite materials) for one product group (plastic and paper membranes).

Date of criteria revise: September 18, 2023

Criteria revise valid from: September 18, 2023

Type of change: substantial
