The term “mineral paints” refers to silicate and lime paints. Pure silicate paints consist only of potassium water glass, inorganic pigments and fillers. They are applied as two-component systems. Single-component silicate paints are called emulsion silicate paints. Their organic components must not exceed 5% by weight. For lime paints, no limit for plastic contents has been defined.
Mineral paints have several advantages:
The higher their content of organic components, the more desirable properties are lost.
The organic components of emulsion silicate paints and emulsion lime paints must not exceed 5% by weight.
