5. 1. 5. Limits for VOC and SVOC emissions from flexible flooring

description relevant product categories

explanation

Flexible flooring of low quality, which releases elevated amounts of organic substances, shall not be used.
Flexible flooring may release volatile or semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) as a result of degassing or abrasion. The effects of VOCs and SVOCs may range from perceptible odour and irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and throat, to neurological effects, and long-term effects. A number of substances are deemed to have allergenic or carcinogenic potential.

minimum requirement

Flexible flooring must meet the following requirements for emission behaviour:

Parameter

Max. test chamber concentration after 28 days

Carcinogenic substances classified as Categories 1A and 1B under CLP Regulation 1272/2008 (C-substances)

1 µg/m³ (not quantifiable)

Total of volatile organic compounds C6–C16 (TVOCs)

300 µg/m³

Total of semi-volatile organic compounds C16–C26 (TSVOCs)

100 µg/m³

Proof:
Test report of an accredited testing laboratory, with test chamber procedure in accordance with ÖN EN ISO 16000-6,-9,-11 and ÖNORM EN 16516. Test specifications according to AgBB-Scheme 2018 or more current, with a space loading of ≥ 0.4 m²/m³ for flooring materials.

All products awarded one of the following eco labels meet these criteria:

Certificates for test chamber examinations that confirm compliance with the above-mentioned limit values in compliance with the specified requirements are also recognized (e.g. Indoor Air Comfort GOLD).

The test certificate or test report must not be more than 5 years old.

Alternatively, the corresponding baubook declaration may serve as evidence (www.baubook.info/oea).

Change of criteria

... AgBB scheme 2018 ADDED: or more current, whereby a room loading of ≥ 0.X m2/m3 must be applied for insulating materials. REMOVED: For older measurements, tests according to AgBB scheme 2015 are accepted. PLACED AT THE END: The test certificate ADDED: or test report must not be older than 5 years.

ADDED: Certificates for test chamber tests that confirm compliance with the above-mentioned limit values in compliance with the specified implementation regulations) are also recognized (e.g. Indoor Air Comfort GOLD).
